“Millán’s work is, in principle, socially networked. Beyond having as an end the creation of a finite image alone, Millán’s aim is to build a sense of trust within and amongst her participants. And, above all, to help knit a social fabric by identifying and fostering creative affinities in the communities she comes to know or create through her art making. Carried out over a period of 6 months, the resulting animation is based on a LARP with six players in Berlin, which was later developed with musicians, animators, and choreographers in Bogotá, Colombia.

Trescaras began with a call for people from Live Action Role Play (LARP) communities. (While gamers assume invented characters within the virtual realm of online platforms, LARP communities physically enact characters in a live yet fictional setting.) The artist’s call was to form a collective laboratory in which to test, develop, reinterpret, and give new direction to Colombian supervillain Snowflame, featured in New Guardians – #2 Blow in the Wind by DC Comics. This comic was released in 1988. Millán explores ways in which the comic’s narrative draws from—and appears to support—the then ongoing “War on Drugs” in Colombia. In this comic, SnowFlame ostensibly gains superhuman powers by ingesting cocaine, powers which strengthen as he engages in physical fight.”
