Doble faz

Doble Faz is inspired by a Colombian super villain in the American comic series New Guardians. The character is SnowFlame, who is shown to acquire his power through ingesting copious amounts of cocaine. This animation was originally created as six short episodes progressively released on Instagram. Through the episodes, now edited into a single clip, each of the characters in the comic come to be deconstructed. Taken together, Millán proposes to re-signify aspects of Colombia as represented in the comic, that questions both the effectiveness of a war on drugs, as well as the comic’s imaginary construction of the “Nueva Grenada” (New Grenada), which refers to both the Colonial name for Colombia and to the purported “Empire of Good”. Doble Faz marks the start of Millán’s continued investigation into areas of contention within the comic, which later resulted in Trescaras on view in the opposite gallery. Accompanying Doble Faz is a video presenting the comic New Guardians – #2 Blow in the Wind. In this issue, a team of eight superheroes gathered from four corners of the globe attempt to destroy SnowFlame’s drug cartel.
