Installation

Canicas is an installation composed of three sculptures made from a collection of candies packages, divided by color and enclosed in glass spheres. The spheres allude to the figure of the worm: an invertebrate, a creature of the earth that moves along the ground, an unknown and unrecognizable presence, flexible and ever-changing. The wrappers were collected before the labeling law came into effect, reflecting how biopolitics operates and infiltrates the mind, contributing to processes of subjectivation and creating echo chambers of objectivity. The piece speaks about a period when synthetic dyes and sweeteners symbolized both scarcity and the promise of instant, fleeting joy, a promise that was ultimately broken by the collapse of the ideal of progress.
