Watercolors
2018
.
These series of watercolors, created by Millán especially for this exhibition, portray her collaborators and their invented characters as may be seen in her animations. At times, Millán, who is originally from Cali and currently lives in Berlin, has met and worked with her collaborators in person; at times, through online portals alone. For this body of work, she has chosen watercolor as a medium to explore the fluid identity of their characters, as well as fantasy, which is characteristic of gaming culture. This is a technique she is closely familiar with (her mother is a “watercolor artist”), and one that sets a dialogue between handmade and digital. It also connects to the preceding sketches and storyboards created in the process of making the animations.
